Each piece in the Plausible Deniability series begins with the act of meticulously inscribing the repeated phrase “never said” on gridded pages of translucent mylar. The pages are then cut apart and combined with illustrations, color, symbol, icon and ephemera. Recognizable fragments play to our instinct to read hidden messages into the new image—personal, political, conspiratorial or otherwise. But the underlying text, “never said,” denies responsibility for any resulting interpretations.
